We Are Eli And Kate...

and this is our garden

What can I sow now? Our monthly guide to seeds to sow.

We get asked on an almost daily basis, “what seeds can I sow?”
So although it is a contentious one to give advice on, we thought it might be helpful to document what we are planning on sowing each month, flowers and veg. To let you guys see what we’re up to and to hear our thoughts. Now obviously we’re all in different areas, with different temperatures, rainfall amounts, different frost zones and even, in different seasons. So it’s really important that you have a think about your situation and how my experiences do and don’t relate to you. After all, there’s no point sowing seeds if they just won’t germinate in your situation, or worse, the little seedlings can’t cope and die.

To help with this, I always highlight things to think about, like frost dates, and whether the seeds and plants need heat or light. Look out for terms like heat, indoors, direct sowing, undercover, and of course frost dates.

From August onwards, our seeds sowing here changes focus and we start to think about autumn and winter and crops that can cope with cold. That required a whole blog post as well as a video to cover a wide topic. You can find the blog post and videos from the link below

October onwards is when we start to think about onions, garlic, and of course spring bulbs

Onions starts, garlic, and those glorious spring bulbs are all jobs we can be doing in late winter (before the ground freezes) to give us those little pops of excitement come spring when we see the first green shoots appear. This year I planted my garlic in pots rather than raised beds.

Two videos for you below, planting spring bulbs and onion sets (in the rain)

Planting my garlic in pots this tear to beat the wet of winter and early spring.

In August and September, we start thinking about winter harvests

Let me take you through my plans for growing from late summer to make sure we have plenty of fresh green things to eat throughout winter. We start now to get things growing, check out the post below for my top tips and a list of seeds to sow.
